Rhiân Young has been the business manager at Mount Pleasant Business Centre since its launch in 2025, playing a key role in developing the centre into a welcoming and professional business community. “My goal is simple – to provide businesses with a professional, friendly and supportive environment where they can grow with confidence.”

The History of Mount Pleasant Campus in Swansea

Mount Pleasant has been part of Swansea's urban landscape since the Victorian era, with much of the surrounding housing built in the late 19th century. In 1853, Swansea Grammar School for Boys moved to a purpose-built site at Mount Pleasant, later evolving into the Swansea Intermediate and Technical School for Boys and Swansea Technical College, which became central to vocational and technical education in the city.
 
The Swansea College of Art (1853), Swansea Training College (1872) and Swansea Technical College (1895) came together in 1976 to form the West Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education, later renamed Swansea Metropolitan University. After merging with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) in 2013, the campus remained in use until most teaching moved to the £350 million SA1 Swansea Waterfront Campus in 2018, although some specialist arts provision continued nearby along Alexandra Road. Beyond the campus itself, the area also reflects Swansea's wider industrial, healthcare and educational heritage, including links to Mount Pleasant Hospital.
